English Language Forums

There are many ways to learn the English language. There are many benefits to doing so, as well. With the help of English language forums, many people are learning English quickly and efficiently. There are some of these forums which are averaging 30,000 visits. It has become very popular to be able to speak fluent English. In some cases, it has become necessary.

What may surprise you is what you can learn on the English language forums. Not only do the people discuss sentence structure and writing, but also how to formulate words into the sentences. They go to the forums to find synonyms and antonyms, pronouns and adjectives. This begins to make sense when you realize how complex the the English language really is. There is not one single dictionary or translation book which could cover the vast range of how the English language is used.

When you start getting into slang or idioms, the rules are completely thrown out. This can be extremely frustrating to a student who is trying to learn English. Proper English is nothing like the spoken word. Maybe in the high courts of Europe you can use the English taught in books. However, when in America, or any native English speaking country, there are no rules to what one may say.

You can confuse someone simply by making the statement “my dogs are barking”. Unless you are used to what an idiom is and know the slang for foot is dog, this could leave you completely lost. Someone who is just learning English, with no language forums to help him may wonder if you have lost your mind. They would never know you meant your feet hurt. Another one would be “a frog in your throat”. Although it would be interesting to see how someone would interpret that, the idea of hearing that phrase for the first time could really confuse someone. By telling someone to fish or cut bait when you are working on a project could produce some interesting results as well. The English language is not just “plain English”.

The English language forums allow the students to learn about every part of the English language. There are people on these sites from all over the globe. It is interesting to read how they view the language and the problems they have with translations. To us it seems as though it should come natural. However, when someone says speak English, after reading some of the posts you have to ask yourself which dialect. Even the simple phrase, “Spit it out” can leave someone spitting onto the floor and wondering why he is doing it. All you wanted was for him to say what he had to say.

As we watch the foreign student try to understand our language, we should take note of how we speak. Do we make ourselves clear? Are the points we try to make concise? Do we use unfamiliar terms not normally associated with the subject? These are all things which are addressed on the English language forums. They are issues because of the way we talk and the expressions we use. When someone says we have the freedom of expression and the use of free speech, they really mean it.
